A Different Approach to Counseling
Cognitive and Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Cognitive and Dialectical Therapy combines evidence-based and directive approaches to addressing severe mood and behavior disturbance. This approach typically employs gaining skills and strategies in addition to processing difficult circumstances individuals may be struggling with. As clients practice identifying body, thought, feeling, and behavior responses to upsetting episodes in life, they learn to develop their individual abilities to address these situations after formal therapy sessions have ended.
Individual and Family Therapy Working Together
When appropriate, Individual or Family Therapy can provide excellent relief from difficult circumstances. If individual and family therapy happen together, progress can be realized even more quickly than in approaches that only deal with one area of the family system.
When Trauma is a contributing factor (attachment/neglect issues, abondonment, major loss, abuse, learning disability) to current difficulties, I include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) If you would like to learn more about EMDR and it's researched effectiveness, visit the EMDR Institute's web site.
